Sharing details and decorations from Brynn’s Mermaid themed 6th birthday party along with my best tips on hosting a stress-free party!
Hi friends! Welcome! It’s been a while since I’ve written a full on blog. Lately, I’ve been sharing more family, fashion, and food on my Instagram feed and stories: @Miraclelising, but I knew I had to document this one on the blog! We have kept Brynn’s birthdays pretty low key since pandemic and have enjoyed our birthday name donuts and cake with family as our celebration. This year, however, Brynn had the idea of a Magical Mermaid themed birthday with her close friends from school. After last year’s shut down, overcoming anxiety, and adjusting to change, she is so deserving of this and well overdue for a first birthday with friends!
Before I share details and vendors of the party, I want to share 3 of my best tips on throwing a stress-free and successful kids party! Birthday party planning is one of my favorite Mom duties for well over 11 years now. I don’t always throw a big party, but when I do, I love to focus on the details to make the theme come to life and make the celebrated person feel extra special!
First off, I like to start planning my Pinterest board to create an inspiration visual a couple of weeks in advance. It helps me visualize a color combo for the birthday and plan what I need to order before I start randomly ordering things I might not need to use. I always try to stick to 3 colors and an accent color. For this mermaid themed party my colors were pastel pink, lavender, teal, and my accent color was silver.
Secondly, keep the decor simple. You don’t need to decorate the whole house or venue. Less is more! For kids’ birthday decor, I like to include a balloon garland, plates and napkins that match the theme, and a themed cake. The entertainment and company will create the fun!
I saved the best tip for last. I’ve learned over the years of party planning to not try to do it all yourself! Give yourself grace, time, and help! Divide and conquer! That’s the hardest thing for moms or party planners, I know. I’ve learned over the years to allow friends and family to help. You are the creator, the idea maker, and the consultant of all the party details, but allowing others to help you set up the day of the party is super helpful and stress-free!
Now onto Brynn’s Mermaid themed party details. Our sweet friends Yesenia and Erin from True Joy & Co. came early and set-up the magical balloon garland at our party venue: Play Street Museum in Cypress, TX. I sent them my inspo picture, and they helped me bring it to life! Way cuter than I’d imagined. They bring true joy to your party with every detail. As far as the Under the Sea Mermaid cake, our friend, Iliana from Katy Dream Cakes baked it and designed it to our liking. It tasted as magical as it looked. We kept the menu pretty simple and served pizza, cake, and Capri Suns. Every kids dream, right? The tablescape was another Pinterest inspiration, and was brought to life by seashells, silver sea stars, and iridescent paper plates. I have linked party decor and our outfits on my Like to Know it shop: @miraclelising for easier access and links. Birthday party favors were from Party City. They were affordable, cute, and matched our theme perfectly! If you are local, I highly recommend our vendors for your next event!
Okay, now let me tell you about our venue, the Play Street Museum. This is one of Brynn’s favorite places to visit on a hot summer day! We came for the very first time last year with a friend, and came back again this summer. The kids have fun imagining and pretending in the different stations and educational play space. Adults are welcome to join in on the adventure, or sit back and relax while their kids discover a world that is just their size in the interactive children’s museum. Everything there from the Ice Cream Shop, to the Potting Shed, and real life house and kitchen, is adorable and kid fun! I am thankful we had the option to host a private party. It was calming, organized, and inviting for our guests, or shall I say Mermaids.
Brynn had so much fun celebrating her special day with her friends and family! I will be sharing more pics and videos from her birthday over on my Instagram, @Miraclelising! I hope you found this helpful and found some inspiration for your very own mermaid themed party! Feel free to comment, DM, or email me if you have any questions at all! I am happy to help! 🙂
