In honor of Mother’s Day being right around the corner, I am sharing one of my favorite Mommy-and-Me Shoots with this little Princesita of mine. Our photographer found this gem of a garden in the Heights, where we melted in between the flowers. Not for too long, because then we started sneezing, so not featured was our allergies! Haha!
I love capturing candid moments like these with Brynn. The simplicity of this picture freezes moments that describes us so well. Brynnie is gazing off into space because she lives in her own little fairy tale world, while I’m laughing because that’s the only way I get through this season of life lately. This season we all call, “Motherhood!”
If you haven’t already noticed,
I am in LOVE with being a GIRL MOM!
Okay, maybe slightly obsessed with having a BABY GIRL!
As a first time mom, when I was pregnant with my first, I had recurring dreams of having a baby girl. I even had a girl name picked out for my son, just in case the doctor happened to be wrong about baby’s gender. Of course, I cried tears of joy when I found out I was carrying a healthy baby boy, but deep inside I felt resentment with God. Why didn’t He grant me MY wish? Why was my baby NOT a girl, like my dreams said he’d be. It wasn’t until 5 1/2 years later, that I became a first-time girl mom, when I knew my life was about to change again! My long time dream had just become reality, and I didn’t know what to expect! I still don’t know what to expect some days. Motherhood is still so new to me, and I’m constantly learning and hoping to improve every single moment with both my boy and my girl.
I do know one thing, the past 21 months as a girl mom have given me so much joy! There is something very special about having a baby girl. Here are just 10 of the (million) BEST Things About Having a Girl!
1. HAVING A MINI-ME: Twinning! And you better do it now, before they have their OWN opinion. Color coordinating and matching with my mini is one of my favorite things to do! You can read more Mommy-and-Me style posts here, or here.
2. A BETTER APPRECIATION FOR YOUR MOM– When they place that little girl in your arms, you immediately fall in love and want the very best for her. You want her to be happy. You want her to be successful. You want her to be healthy. You want her to experience real JOY in her life. But you know she is going to have trials, heartache and bad days – so you just hold on to her for as long as you can. And you realize your mom feels the exact same way about you, no matter how old you are.
3. HER CLOTHES– Reality is Baby Girls can completely break the bank! Cute baby rompers, mocs, dresses, skirts, leggings, bows, oh my gosh, the list could go on on all the cuteness. Being both a girl and boy mom, I have seen that at stores, the girls’ section always has a lot more to chose from and a lot more cute stuff than the boys’ side.
*Here’s a mom tip on clothes: Purchase a couple of nice pieces that fit her style, and wear them over and over again, because truth is, they outgrow pieces in such a short amount of time. This is a big money saver!
4. HER HAIR- Some babies are born bald and don’t have hair until they’re three, while some have a head full since birth. Brynn was that baby! Styling Hair is one of my favorite things to do! Now that Brynn has more hair, I get to play dress up and hair dresser, when she lets me. And, if all fails, just slap a big bow on her and vamonos!
5. THE AUTOMATIC MOTHERLY INSTINCT– Baby girls love their baby dolls. My heart melted when I found Brynn rocking her baby to sleep, saying “shhhhhh” and giving her kisses. She will also mother Bryce at 21 months old. “Be careful Bryce!” And I just bust out laughing! A one-year-old telling a 1st grader to be careful! It’s that mother-hen instinct!
6. YOU’LL UNDERSTAND HER- You’re a girl – so you know how she feels. You have dealt with mean girls and hormones. You have dealt with boys. You will be able to connect with her on a different level than anyone else can. She will trust you and love you. She will call you when she needs a recipe, or just someone that will genuinely listen to her. She will text you when she is having a bad day. She will ask you for help when she needs it. Because YOU have been in her shoes. At least that’s what I do with my mom, so I’m hoping that’s what Brynnie will do that with me one day!
7. SHE WILL BE MOMMY’s LITTLE HELPER– She will want to wipe the table, dust the countertops, clean every spill, mom, and cook with you. Mommy’s little helper she’ll be!
8. ALL THINGS GIRLY- Do we need to say more? Bows, glitter, tutu’s, make-up, shoes! “Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world!”–Marilyn Monroe
9. SHE WILL LOOK UP TO YOU: Having a girl means having someone thinking you are her world! You suddenly have the urge to serve others because you want her to learn how to serve. You suddenly want to make her laugh because you want her to be happy. You suddenly want to not criticize your self-image because you want her to know she is beautiful. You suddenly want to spend more time in the kitchen because you want her to learn how to cook. You suddenly want to put your phone away, turn off the computer and slow time down because you realize with just a blink of an eye she will be grown, and no longer a baby.
10. SHE WILL BE YOUR BEST FRIEND- Yes I saved the best for last! She will be Mommy’s best friend, even years from now!
When that PINK confetti came out of that popper, I had no idea what was ahead of me – but looking back, I wouldn’t have changed it for a thing. Because I am better than I was years ago…because of my girl (and my boy).
What is your favorite thing about having a baby?! A girl or a boy?! I would love to hear from you!

April 28, 2018 at 10:43 pmThis is lovely! My eldest child is a girl and we love to wear twinning clothes. I agree with you that it is really great to have a girl. It is really different to having a boy. My youngest is a boy and its kind of tougher to take care of him!lol

April 30, 2018 at 10:11 pmAw! Clarice, I pray that God gives you a sweet baby girl. I thought I didn’t want to have another baby after an awful labor experience with my son. When my baby girl came into this world, I knew it would be different. She’s changed my world for the better!
