FIERCE…FEMININE…and FUN…are the words that best describe me as a mother. In honor of Mother’s Day, I am sharing our Mother’s Day outfits along with a very special project that I was honored to be a part of, “Mother’s Arise.”
Let’s Start with FIERCE:
Mother’s Arise is a photo series that celebrates Mother’s who Rise to the Occasion presented by the beautiful and talented Anel, from Tender Nest Portraits. Fierce mamas who rise to the occasion by balancing relationships, work life, house chores, and child rearing; all while reaching their goals. This is a project about persistence, struggle, empowerment, and the pursuit of dreams. This project is close to my heart, because it is who I am as a mother.
A couple of months ago, I decided to submit my application through the Houston Latina Bloggers page, in hopes of getting to be one of the 12 Latina bloggers picked. I knew right away my chances would be minimal, because I have not been blogging nearly as long as some of the other candidates. In fact, I have only been blogging for 10 months. But instead of thinking I would not get picked, I was fierce and hopeful.
Fierce- in my words, that spoke truth to this mission. Fierce- in my daily life that allows me to play many different hats, some of which include: being a mom, wife, faith-leader, teacher, disciplinarian, daughter, sister, blogger, editor, content creator, cook, nurse, counselor, primary care-taker, and the list goes on…
In January, I received an email from Tender Nest Portraits congratulating me on getting showcased for this project! I was in shock! But more so, humbled, to be able to work along side one of the sweetest and most talented Latina photographers in Cypress to share my story.

Anel asked me: “What story are you hoping to tell through your session with Tender Nest Portraits?”
I answered: “I hope to tell a story of young moms like myself, that are balancing relationships, careers, raising kids, all while reaching for their goals and overcoming all odds.”
I became a mom at the age of 21. Drew and I had both talked about starting a family and decided it would be a good idea to do it in a couple of years. Little did we know Bryce was already in my belly at the time. I had just graduated from Texas A&M and had no job lined up. I was in despair and at the time, I felt I had all odds against me. I was not married yet, and had to break the news to my Hispanic parents. If you have Hispanic parents, you can imagine how hard that was to share. My mom has always been my best friend, so the feeling of disappointing her was painful. I was certainly not ready to be a mom.
But I will never forget the moment Drew and I went to the doctor and confirmed that sweet baby boy was going to make us a family. This was as REAL as it gets! I was about to be a MOM, something I had always dreamed about. I soon learned that there is no perfect timing to be a mother. You learn as they go, and they teach you a thing or two along the way!
I was soon able to start my teaching career and buy our first home at the age of 24! Hard work and persistence is key. We were thankful for our family’s support during this time of need. Fast forward to now, and we are a happy family of four, that is still learning the ins and outs of parenthood. No, I don’t have all the answers. Nor do I know the “why” behind the many questions my kids ask me.
But I do know one thing. “All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my mother.” I know love and hard work, through my beautiful mom. It takes someone really brave to be a mother, something strong to raise a child, and someone special to love someone more than herself.
Through my blog, I aim to erase the negative stigma that young moms tend to have. As young moms, we too, can mommy full-time, carry a career full time, be a wife, have fun, have friends, and laugh and support one another along the way because this thing we call “Motherhood” is not easy!
Just because we are moms, doesn’t mean the world has to come to an end. Enjoy life, dance a little, or a lot, and laugh mama, because life’s too short to not!
FEMININE and FUN- For the shoot, I decided to pick outfits that described my style: feminine and fun!
Florals are every mother’s dream, so I thought it would be appropriate for my mom and I to wear florals. I love color, but I envisioned florals, neutrals, and Spring palettes of pinks and whites. As a busy mom, I rely heavily on online shopping. I got my open-shoulder dress from my favorite online shop, Lulu’s. I have linked the exact link to my dress, along with other similar styles.
Brynn’s romper is perfect for Spring or Summer. I loved it because it made her look like a baby. The older she gets into her toddler stage, the more and more I want her to stay looking like a baby. This mommy-and-me look is not too matchy-matchy. It is perfect for a Spring or Summer shoot, brunch, or church.
Bryce is the most boyish boy I’ve ever met. He doesn’t speak Spanish, or English, he speaks SPORTS! So picking out an outfit for him was a bit of a challenge. But I found the softest Chino shorts for him from The Children’s Place and they were blush! He didn’t even know they were pink because they were so light in color, they almost look khaki! Can’t believe how tall my handsome first grader is getting!

Thank you for reading my Motherhood Story. Your support means the world. Stay tuned for Anel’s blog post coming up on “Mother’s Arise!”
Being a mom is absolutely the greatest gift of all. I love being able to see my B’s grow, laugh, and explore the world in front of them.
Out of the many hats we wear as a mom, what is your favorite role to wear as a mom?
Would love to hear from you!
Happy Mother’s Day!

Some days we feel we don’t do enough or not enough time for it all! But we have to give ourselves grace and appreciate all the roles we play! We got this!
