Let’s face it, parenting at any stage of life is hard! The life of a working mother is busy to say the least. Being able to deal with the stresses of every day life can be difficult as working mothers. One day you could be discouraged by something your child did at school while the next you are nervous because of a big project or deadline you have approaching for your career. The fact is, that stress is something no one tells you will play a big part of motherhood.
Working moms, stay-at-home moms, moms that work from home, moms working two jobs to put food on the table, single moms, young moms, teen moms, we all share that one special thing in common, aside from being strong enough to carry and give birth to little humans- is stress. The way in which we deal with this stress allows us to stay sane on the days that we are on the verge of crying our hearts out, raising our voice, or pulling our hairs out.
Juggling my teaching career, my hobbies, along with motherhood has not been easy. Pictures are not perfect. Life is hard, and I am a strong believer in lifting each other up as women. Being a young working mom, has taught me quite a few things that I can do and things that I need on a daily basis to keep myself sane. I hope that you too find these tips uplifting and helpful.
- A Positive Attitude: Yes, this is the hardest! That’s why I made sure I put it first. The fact that little Bryce was lying to us and refused to tell us the truth until we got it out of him, made me feel frustrated and discouraged as a parent. Where did I go wrong? Where did we go wrong? That’s not the child I have raised! You see, I have a first grader, who is only 7, but acts like he’s seventeen. He is very independent and thinks he knows everything about life, because he is mature for his age. Talking to him about consequences and punishing him for his wrong doings is the positive practice we did. Take a minute to just breath and think about what you will say before you actually say it.
- Work out to Relieve Stress: I like to go to the gym and take workout classes like kickboxing, Zumba, U-Jam Fitness, yoga, etc. Exercising will not only improve your health but your self-esteem, and me time that is majorly needed as a mom. Most of the time it is hard leaving the kids during the week, as week nights are already so fast-paced. But squeezing in some working out me time is a must in my world. If you haven’t tried it yet, I promise you will not be disappointed!
- A Routine Where Everyone Helps: Being a mom boss means delegation is key! No, you’re not being bossy, you’re being the leader that your household needs. You need to assign responsibilities to everyone in the family. It has taken me years, and I mean years to learn this. I have always been very independent, and do not like to accept help from others. But after years of being the only one cleaning, cooking, taking care of finances, decisions, chores, and the list goes on, I have recently learned the hard way. Even if you do not have a spouse, kids can help you so much! Have grandparents take the kids for the weekend and do something you and your girlfriends have been wanting to do! Accept help and be happier! 🙂
- “Just me” Time Daily: This “me time” is golden for all moms-whether you work outside the home or not! This is the time that you can sit back and relax watching “This is Us” or your favorite You Tube videos that make you laugh, along with your well-deserved glass of wine. This could be the 10 minutes you’re in the shower. Or the 20 minutes you take to get ready for bed. Lavender Epsom salt baths were my best friend when I was pregnant with Brynn. I try to squeeze in a relaxing bath at least once a week. If you care about your daily make up more than I do, your me time might be your getting ready time for work. Me time is hard, but you have to make time for it. For me lately, my “me time” is this space right here. My blog, and community of moms and women that inspire one another. Do what makes you happy. Shop online, smile more, and spurge because mama you deserve it! 🙂 We so got this!
Love,
Your tired but “keeps it real” mom friend,
